Meet Sho Hosokawa, official jury member of The GIANT Hunt

For centuries, Japanese artists have used ink and brush to create expressive works of art.

Today, artists such as Sho Hosokawa are taking this traditional art form into new creative spaces.

A Kyoto-based Japanese traditional ink painter, Sho Hosokawa is the Vice President of Studio ONI Inc., where he oversees the Art Division as Executive Producer. He also works as an Art Director and Animator, specialising in Japanese traditional ink painting.

His work brings the distinctive visual language of traditional Japanese ink painting into contemporary animation.

From Traditional Ink to Animation

At Studio ONI, Hosokawa has worked on projects that demonstrate how traditional artistic techniques can find new expression through animation.

His work includes Supercell's official Brawl Stars animation and a Japanese traditional ink-painting animation connected to NHK's Taiga drama Brothers in Arms.

Across these projects, he has handled art direction, as well as character animation and background art created in the Japanese traditional ink-painting style.

His work reflects the possibilities that emerge when traditional art and contemporary animation come together.

An Artist Who Brings Ideas to Life

For creators, every original character begins somewhere.

With an idea.

A sketch.

A line on paper.

Then comes the challenge of turning that idea into something others can see and connect with.

As an artist working across traditional ink painting, art direction and animation, Sho Hosokawa brings this perspective to the international jury of THE GIANT Hunt.

Your original creation could have the opportunity to be reviewed by a creative professional who understands both the traditional foundations of drawing and the process of bringing art into contemporary visual storytelling.

Bring Your Original Creation to THE GIANT Hunt

You have imagined it.

You have created it.

Now, give it the opportunity to be seen.
